Mrs. DeWall - Classroom Spotlight

I can hardly believe we are in the fourth quarter.

It has been an amazing year of learning with Mrs. DeWall’s students.  The first grade reading students have made great progress this year.  They are self-correcting, applying the reading strategies we have learned and reading with more expression!

Other students I work with are identifying the main topic in a reading passage and finding details to support their main topic.  They are learning how to blend consonant diagraphs like cl, bl, gl to figure out new words.  Playing the Orson (sight word) game is always a highlight for the students.  Orson (the big dog) is a favorite character in many of the books we read.

In math we have learned to add and subtract two-digit numbers with and without regrouping tens and ones.  The math students are making good progress with the single-digit one-minute addition drills we are doing.

The year is flying by quickly.  It has been a busy year, and I am so happy to be able to teach these students as they make new discoveries in their learning process each day.  As we wrap up fourth quarter, remember to keep reading!!
