FGS Books and Basketball Tournament
The Books and Basketball Tournament was a resounding success in Ms. Genandt's first-grade class, mirroring the excitement of the NCAA March Madness tournament. The event, which involved teachers from grades 1st through 5th, as well as the school's principal, Mr. Schrader, and Superintendent, Mrs. Smith each chose a book to be part of the tournament. It was a unique and engaging way to encourage reading and critical thinking among the students. The tournament started with the Sweet 16 where each day the students listened to 2 books and voted on which book they liked best. The book that had the most votes moved on to the next round. After the Sweet 16 we went to the Elite 8, Final Four, and finally the Championship game to determine our winner. We had some very close matches and even had a couple ties. The students said that the voting was harder after each round as they had a hard time choosing between books they really liked. This really brought out students' love for books, while also creating a little fun book competition.
