NIU Engineering Expo Field Trip
A group of 22 high school engineering students went on a field trip to the Convocation Center at Northern Illinois University on the afternoon of Friday, May 5th. Every student that went was enrolled in one of the PLTW Engineering courses offered at Forreston High School. The goal of the field trip was to promote awareness of careers in engineering and technology.
Forreston students surveyed nearly 50 projects that college students at NIU’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology had on display. They noted the broad range of projects that applied concepts between mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering disciplines. Test vehicles and robotic arms were among the favorite projects seen by the high school students. Forreston students have the option of continuing through other engineering class up to an engineering capstone project by their senior year.
